SCAN-DIGI-SERVICES
BFK-SCAN-DIGI-Services are based on almost 20 years development of software and methods. In this period ca. 1,500 PCB models have been digitized - first by ERICH KERN GmbH and then by BFK-Services. The main software tool is RECAD, and it is still under development today. The most important questions and answers:
from which material can be digitized?
- preferably from films (positive, negative, diazo)
- from manually created drawings (e.g. taped drawings)
- from 1- and 2layer PCBs directly (nondistructive)
- (conditionally) from multilayer boards (distructive, high expense)
- with restrictions from paper copies and photographs, too
which material is additionally helpful?
- available drill- and routing programs
- dimension drawings and drill maps
- component drawings for special components and connectors
which kind of PCB can be digitized?
- digilab: workstations and scanners
from films more or less all kind of PCB can be digitized (and has been already digitized by BFK):
- simple PCBs up to high count multilayer boards
- rigid, flexible and flex-rigid boards
- THT and SMT PCBs
- and PCBs up to high resolution
by the way: not one digitizing job was ever rejected by BFK for technical reasons!
wich material and service can be expected?
generally we provide complete production data and substantial control documents:
- from all layers which are necessary for PCB production we create clean and perfect GERBER data
- we prepare new production drawings (dimension drawings and drill maps)
- drill programs and contour data will be provided
- desired improvements (layout optimization) will be realized
- even limited local redesign is possible
how high is the level of reliability and exactness?
Also exactness and correctness (freedom of faults) were constantly improved in the last years by BFK. so e.g. from the last 500 digitizing jobs not one relevant fault was reported to us. About exactness (position and dimension of elements) we don't recall any complaint ever.
This has to be ensured by special processes and methods, because today's available scanners don't provide defined geometric exactness. You'll receive more detailed information by request.
The whole scanning - digitizing process is performed following our detailed quality manual.
which soft- and hardware tools are applied?
- RECAD-System
- backbone of digitizing is the RECAD system, developed by ourselves, applied on serveral workstations and as a client version at external service providers.
- high resolution A4 and A3 scanners with transparency units are available
- special image editing software as e.g. ADOBE Photoshop ® is applied for preparing the scanned images
- extensive CAM-software is applied for completion of production and documentation data.
Last but not least: what about the cost of PCB digitizing?
we can't provide an exact cost formula but based on representative documents and details we prepare always a short term quotationI.
It could be shown as a guide value that PCB scanning digitizing costs normally about 10-20% of a new PCB layout- at much more reliablity.
